U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics shows that 4.3 million Americans have quit their jobs in December 2021. More and more people are turning to remote and freelance careers, but it’s important to see the wider picture and to think about the potential hazards of freelance work as well.
Trying to create a healthier working environment, together with gaining more quality from their work-life leads numerous young people to try and get a remote job and create their own freelancing career.
20% of Americans want to switch to a full-time freelancing
Working from 9 to 5 in the office doesn’t sound attractive anymore. If 20% of Americans truly go remote, the result will be a boost to the gig economy. Freelancers worldwide are thrilled to create their own careers, but it’s a fact that they should think about the future as well. Quitting a job and creating an own freelancing career is a good way to work in these pandemic times, but it’s said that we must not ignore the fundamental trends in the gig economy.
Problem with prices becoming lower with time
With the rise of digital technology where numerous tasks could be done with a tool or an app, they may be a risk for freelancers who don’t have some specific tech or some other special knowledge they can offer. Besides that, when the competition increases, freelancers may also find themselves with lower wages, which later leads to a lower quality of life in general.
How could we stop the negative things? According to Andre Lee, the author of “The ‘Great Resignation’ Will Transform the Gig Economy” article, we need new forms of finance. That will allow freelancers to create a quality partnership with companies, agencies, and freelance platforms, which will lead to expanding the quality of work and life at once. The solution is still not on the table, but hopefully, it will bring a chance to offer system financial capabilities to invest in freelancing.
If you are an aspiring gig worker:
Many will try, some will succeed, but some will find themselves lost in the freelancing career. There’s one thing every freelancer should remember – you are your business. You are all roles that some company has. You must be prepared to think about all aspects of any project.
